Aria was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in August of 2011, a week before starting Kindergarten. She was put on a maintenance medicine and went into remission for 9 months. In May of 2012, her UC came back with a vengeance. She was hospitalized for a week in May and started on a multitude of medicines over the next year. She remained in a constant flare until August 7, 2013. This is the day that has forever changed our lives. Aria had a proctocolectomy with a J-pouch made and an ileostomy bag for 2 months until her J-pouch healed. On October 2, 2013, she was connected to her bottom again and came home 3 days later from the hospital. Although this was the hardest decision we have had to make as parents, the result has been amazing!
Aria is now HEALTHY, happy and GROWING!!! For the first time in 2 years, we got to buy her new pants because she has grown so much. We are thankful for our amazing support group of family, friends and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America who have helped us along this journey.
