  • Weekly Questions: November
    Weekly Questions?
My neck and shoulders are sore after running.  Why?  The upper back and shoulder muscles are very important postural muscles.  They serve to help keep you upright against the forces of gravity.  When you are running with a forward lean, the stress on those postural muscles is increased due to the impact of running.  It is important to do strghtening exercises fo rthe upper back and shoulders to improve their ability to support the head.

What should I eat before a workout?  You want to make sure you have a good energy food that will not sit in your stomach during your workout.  The closer you are to workout time, the less and simpler form of food you should eat.  Oatmeal is a great energy food, but takes a little longer to digest.  If you are very close to the workout time, a glass of juice or a piece of fruit and an energy bar like a Cliff Bar or Power Bar is a great choice.  Also, make sure you are well hydrated before the workout start.
