Dan's Story
My name is Dan Scheinman and I am now 13 years old. Last May, at the age of 12, a colonoscopy and endoscopy confirmed that I have Crohn’s Disease. Prior to the diagnosis, I had several painful and chronic flare ups which scared me and my family.
Since the diagnosis, I have been taking steroids and following the recommendations of my doctor. I have my blood taken regularly and the dosage of medicine is changed based upon the results. I am doing my best to prevent flare ups.
At the time of the diagnosis, I was captain of my travel baseball team.Although I have had to miss a few games and tournaments, I am determined to be the best ballplayer I can be. My teammates and coaches have been very supportive. My Dad joined Team Challenge last year and through his involvement I have met so many other people affected by this disease.
My family helped with the CCFA fundraising and I went to Las Vegas with the Team Challenge Family where my Dad recently completed the Las Vegas Half-Marathon for CCFA. CCFA has been a great source of information and encouragement for my family. I am now much more comfortable talking about this issue, and did so on live Radio and TV on the WFAN Boomer and Carton Show.
Watch out Crohn’s, game on.
