Walk Coach - Maria Jost

Coach Jost was born in Cali, Colombia (South America) and grew up in a country where people walk a lot on a daily basis to run errands, to go to places, etc. She came to St. Louis, MO in 1989 to learn English after graduating from School of Law and life’s plans allowed her to stay in the United States permanently. She is a graduate from Saint Louis University – School of Law and has been involved with a few local corporations and law groups.
In the Fall of 2005, she saw a race advertised to be held at a park near her home and registered. "I participated as a walker and really enjoyed it!" The same fall she discovered that a race was going to be held at Saint Louis University and she registered for that race as well. "THAT RACE CHANGED MY LIFE!" notes Coach Jost.
After this, Coach Jost started participating in various races in St. Louis as a Walker. Very soon, she started to meet “the walkers” of the area with whom she has been racing since. "I learned that many of them started into this sport in their adulthood as I did and I realized that it is never too late to start something new if you put all the passion and love you can into it!" notes Coach Jost.
In late 2006, she decided that she wanted to do a race out of the state and the following year, a race out of the country. "I was fortunate enough that in the spring of 2007 I did a race in Illinois and another “almost Half Marathon” in my “beloved” Spain (A story to be shared)," says Coach Jost.
So far, Coach Jost has participated in at least 50 races, including four Half Marathons and is looking forward to participate in more races for the rest of her life - here in St. Louis and elsewhere!
"As many of you may feel now, I was intimated by the idea of the “Half Marathon”, but with time and dedication, when the time came, I was ready! I know that this is how you all may feel now and I am looking forward to training with you! I can anticipate that with all your determination and effort you will be ready for the ING Half Marathon – Miami 2009!
