"I have been active my entire life, but growing up hated running until I got the desire to run a marathon. One marathon led to many more and a love of running. Since 2002 I have run 13 marathons and numerous other races from 1 mile to 2 day team relays. I started coaching marathon and half marathon teams in 2008 and joined Team Challenge in 2009, this will be my third season as the run coach. I love working with runners of all levels and seeing everyone reach their goals and develop a love for running. Outside of running I am a new mom, grad student and work so I understand that everyone has a life outside training for a half marathon and make the training realistic for real life."

Kathy is coaching her first season this year, after having walked in the Las Vegas half marathon with Team Challenge this past December and having raised $12,000 for CCFA with her family. She has over 20 years of physical therapy experience, and has lived with Crohn's Disease for over 30 years now. Team Challenge wasn't her first fundraising event either - she's done numerous fundraising bike rides, including a 500 mile AIDS ride from St. Paul to Chicago.

Even though I played competitive sports during high school, I was never a long distance runner, and wouldn’t have imagined that I could complete a marathon. I was a smoker for 14 years and in the fall of 2006 I made the life changing decision to quit. After that large step I successfully completed the San Francisco AIDS Foundation Marathon Training Program and in Nov. 2007 ran in the 24th annual Florence Marathon. I know we all face different obstacles in life, and it can seem impossible to raise enough money or find time to train and complete a half-marathon. However, I have been there and know it is possible! I’m looking forward to coaching and training with this year’s Team Challenge participants and am here to help. No matter where you are on the running spectrum, I can help you get to the finish line. As Oprah Winfrey would say, “The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.” Come live your dream and raise money for a worthy cause while you’re doing it.
