Meet Logan

We Run and Walk for Logan

I’m Logan. I am 16 and a junior at Walsh Jesuit High School. I have had Crohn’s disease for eight years. It is actually hard to remember not having it. I am used to it and the unfortunate complications it can cause for me every now and then. For the most part I consider myself a normal, active and healthy person. I am a good student, I was the leading scorer on my high school soccer team but at least once a year I find myself sidelined by this disease that likes to remind me I am not the average person.

Crohn’s is not an obvious disease. I am not physically handicapped. I don’t wear a brace or have a cast. One day I feel fine, then the next I may not. I think it is a hard disease for people to understand. Medication is a part of my daily life which includes injections everyother week. I have had several hospital stays during my flare ups and missed many days of school. The symptoms and effects are different for everyone. I think friends and teachers and coaches may expect me to look sick but then when I don’t it is easy for them to forget about it.

I feel like my life is a series of starting over. I miss school – I start again. I miss practice – I start again. My medication isn’t working – I start a new one. Sometimes it is exhausting and overwhelming. Although I do not have control over my Crohn's disease I do have control over how I handle myself. For the most part, I try not to let it affect my daily life. I don’t really remember what it feels like to be 100%. My good days are just different.

When it comes to the big picture of fighting Crohn’s disease I do have control. My family and friends have worked together the past two years to raise over $7,000 for CCFA through the Take Steps event. This year I am honored to be involved with "Team Challenge" and will continue to do my part in raising awareness for Crohn’s and colitis.

Logan will be running the half marathon with his mom in Napa! You can meet him at the training sessions and the upcoming informaiton meetings.

He is our hero! He is our inspiration! Our Hope! If he can stay as strong as he did, we can too, for him. We Run and Walk in honor of Logan!

We hope to someday find a cure for Crohn's and Colitis, for Logan and for all the other people who suffer from these diseases.
